SAN ANTONIO – Dr. Laura Cannon has been named the Division I Newcomer of the Year for 2025 by the Faculty Athletics Representative Association's (FARA) Awards Committee.
 
FARA represents all faculty athletics representatives across all three NCAA divisions, and each year this award is given to the member whose hard work, leadership, and service extend beyond their institution.  
 
Dr. Cannon earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of the Incarnate Word while playing for the women's soccer team from 2004-2007. She returned to the nest in 2017 as a member of the faculty and in 2023 Dr. Cannon was appointed the Faculty Athletic Representative. Since then, she has poured into student-athletes across campus not only as an assistant professor but also through her work as the faculty representative.
 
Dr. Cannon and all other award recipients will be honored at the FARA annual meeting and awards banquet on Thursday, November 20.
