SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team lost to crosstown rival UTSA 74-57 at the McDermott Center on Wednesday night.
Destiny Whitaker led the Cardinals with a game-high 18 points, adding four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in the loss. Jorja Elliott contributed 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
The Roadrunners held a narrow 21-20 lead after the opening quarter as both offenses came out firing. UTSA found its rhythm in the second frame, outscoring the Cardinals 20-9to take control of the game.
UIW continued to hang around in the third, narrowly being outscored by the visiting UTSA 20-19. The Roadrunners put the game out of reach in the fourth, outscoring the Red and Black 13-9 in the final frame.
The Cardinals are on the road on Sunday, November 23 in Houston as they take on Rice University. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
