SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team delivered a commanding sweep over Houston Christian University on Wednesday evening, capping its home slate with a dominant showing at the McDermott Center.
Set 1: UIW 25, HCU 16
The opening set was controlled by the Cardinals from start to finish. UIW jumped out to a 5–1 lead and never looked back, stretching the margin to as many as eight points at 20–12. Kyla Malone fueled the early momentum and sealed the frame with her ninth kill of the set, giving the Cardinals a 1–0 match advantage.
Set 2: UIW 25, HCU 18
The Huskies came out firing in set two, building an early 7–3 advantage. After trading points, HCU pulled even at 17–17, but the Cardinals answered with a decisive 9–1 run to close out the frame and take a commanding 2–0 lead. Malone once again paced all attackers, finishing with a set-high four kills.
Set 3: UIW 25, HCU 5
The Cardinals dismantled the Huskies in the final frame, opening with a dominant 6–0 run and never allowing HCU to recover. UIW later erupted for a 9–0 surge to stretch the lead to 19–3, fully seizing control of the set. Kitana Tu'ufuli capped the night with her third kill of the frame, securing the sweep and closing out the home finale in emphatic fashion.
Kyla Malone led all attackers with 15 kills to pace the Cardinals' offense. Setter Calissa Allison tallied her 20th double-double of the season, finishing with 25 assists and 14 digs. Ashton Rogers anchored the back row with 14 digs, while Kade Thomas and Kitana Tu'ufuli provided a strong presence at the net, each recording three blocks.
UIW closes out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Houston Christian University, with first serve at the Sharp Gym scheduled for 1 p.m.
