SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team earned another dominant win at home, this time over Southwestern Christian, 109-70, on Tuesday night.
Tahj Staveskie became one of less than 20 players in Southland Conference history and the first at UIW to record a triple double. He scored 30 points, grabbed 11 boards, and had 10 assists in the win.
Jordan Pyke (17),
Harrison Reede (12), and
Love Bettis (11) also scored in double figures.
Love Bettis started the game on fire going a perfect three-for-three from the field. His teammate in the backcourt,
Tahj Staveskie, outscored Bettis scoring nine early on four of five giving UIW a slight 28-21 lead 10 minutes into the game.
While the Cardinals held onto a slim lead UIW was in foul travel as the Eagles entered the bonus with six minutes left in the first half. It wouldn't make a difference as Staveskie continued to put the ball in the basket finishing the half with 18 points.
UIW took complete control on the offensive side of the ball in the second half. The Cardinals doubled up the Eagles on the scoreboard, 18-9, early on with each of the first five buckets being scored by a different Cardinal.
UIW rolled on a 12-2 run building its largest lead of the game of 25, 85-60. Tahj led the Cardinals as they poured it on down the stretch outscoring Southwestern Christian 62 to 30 in the second half and walked away with a 109-40 win.
