SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team dropped its first conference match of the season, falling to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) in straight sets.
Set 1: UTRGV 25 (1), UIW 20 (0)
UTRGV controlled much of the opening set, building a 22-17 lead late. The Cardinals made a late push to cut the deficit to three, but the Vaqueros held on to claim the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set 2: UTRGV 25 (2), UIW 19 (0)
The Vaqueros once again controlled the tempo in the second set, building a six-point lead. Although UIW narrowed the gap to five late in the set, UTRGV closed it out to extend their lead to 2-0.
Set 3: UTRGV 25 (3), UIW 20 (0)
The Cardinals and Vaqueros battled back and forth early in the third set until UTRGV pulled away with a 5-0 run. UIW managed to narrow the gap to three at 23-20, but the Vaqueros closed out the match with a 2-0 run.
UIW continues its homestand on Saturday, hosting TAM-CC at the McDermott Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
