SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team turned in a dominant performance, sweeping Northwestern State University in straight sets on Thursday evening at the McDermott Center. The sweep was the Cardinals second against the Lady Demons this season.  

Set 1: NSU 11 (0), UIW 25 (1)       

The Cardinals controlled the opening frame from start to finish, building a lead as large as 13 points before a Lady Demon error closed out the first frame. Kyla Malone  tallied four kills to lead the Cardinals, while the UIW defense stifled the Lady Demons to a .000 hitting percentage. 

Set 2: NSU 16 (0), UIW 25 (2)      

The Cardinals carried their momentum into the second frame, once again controlling the pace from start to finish. UIW led by as many as 11 points before Finley Evans put the set away with her third kill of the frame. Malone paced all players with four kills as the Cardinal defense limited the Lady demons to a .000 hitting percentage. 

Set 3: NSU 20 (0), UIW 25 (3)      

The third set proved to be the most competitive of the match, with seven ties but only one lead change. Trailing 4-2 to open the frame, UIW rallied to regain control before a kill by Alex Beauchamp secured the sweep for the Cardinals. 

Kyla Malone led all players with 10 kills on the evening, while Calissa Allison tallied a team-high 22 assists. Ashton Rogers anchored the defense with 10 digs, and Kade Thomas paced all players at the net with seven blocks. 

UIW is back at the McDermott Center this Saturday for senior day against East Texas A&M. First serve is scheduled for noon.
