SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team rolled past Nicholls State in straight sets, securing a 3-0 sweep to stay perfect in Southland Conference play.
Set 1: UIW 25 (1), NICH 17 (0)
The Cardinals controlled the opening set, building a lead of up to 10 points on their way to a 1-0 advantage. UIW swung efficiently with a .444 hitting percentage while limiting Nicholls to just .107. Calissa Allison set the tone offensively, leading all players with five kills in the frame.
Set 2: UIW 25 (2), NICH 17 (0)
Much like the opening frame, the Cardinals dictated the pace in set two, building an eight-point cushion to move ahead 2-0. UIW was nearly unstoppable on offense, hitting .520 as a team, while limiting Nicholls to a .259 mark. Kitana Tu'ufuli powered the attack with a set-high six kills.
Set 3: UIW 25 (3), NICH 18 (0)
The Cardinals kept their momentum rolling in the final set, pulling ahead by nine late to seal the sweep over Nicholls. Finley Evans paced UIW with three kills in the decisive frame.
Tu'ufuli powered the offense with a match-high 11 kills, while Evans anchored the defense with nine digs. At the net, Sofia Grimm added a team-leading four blocks to round out the Cardinals' balanced effort.
UIW returns to the McDermott Center on Saturday, hosting McNeese State at 1 p.m.
