NEW ORLEANS, LA – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team turned in a dominant performance, sweeping the University of New Orleans in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Human Performance Center.
Set 1: UNO 7 (0), UIW 25 (1)
The Cardinals controlled the opening frame from start to finish, building a lead as large as 17 points before Finley Evans closed it out with her fourth kill. Kyla Malone and Vanessa Eregie each tallied five kills to lead all players, while the UIW defense stifled the Privateers to a -.029 hitting percentage.
Set 2: UNO 7 (0), UIW 25 (2)
The Cardinals carried their momentum into the second frame, once again controlling the pace from start to finish. UIW led by as many as 17 points before Sofia Grimm put the set away with her second kill. Tu'ufuli paced all players with four kills as the Cardinal defense limited the Privateers to a -.083 hitting percentage.
Set 3: UNO 22 (0), UIW 25 (3)
The third set proved to be the most competitive of the match, with five lead changes and six ties. Trailing by three late in the frame, UIW rallied to regain control before a Privateer attack error secured the sweep for the Cardinals.
Kyla Malone led all players with 13 kills on the afternoon, while Calissa Allison tallied a match-high 29 assists. Ashton Rogers anchored the defense with 15 digs, and Vanessa Eregie paced all players at the net with five blocks.
UIW returns to the McDermott Center next week for a pair of conference matchups, opening against Northwestern State before closing the week with East Texas A&M.
