Women’s Basketball Uses Comeback to Defeat Privateers

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated the Privateers on Monday evening at the Kiefer Lakefront Arena. 
 
Brynn Lusby led the Cardinals with 15 points off the bench, going 6-10 from the field. The Cardinals had three players tally double-digit points in the win. Jorja Elliott and Raimi McCrary scored 11 and 10 points respectively.  

 
Both teams got off to slow starts with the Cardinals and Privateers knotted at 11-11 heading into the second quarter.   

 
In the second quarter UNO outscored UIW 18-11 to take a seven-point lead into the break. The Privateers shot 61.5% from the floor in the second quarter, while also shooting 40% from beyond the arc. At the break New Orleans was up 29-22.  
 
The Cardinals finished the game strong, shooting 46.7% from the field in the third and fourth quarters. In the third quarter UIW outscored UNO 17-15 to cut the deficit to 44-39 entering the final frame.     
 
The Cardinals controlled the fourth outscoring the Privateers 19-11 to complete the comeback. The Cardinal defense held UNO to a 36.4% field goal percentage in the final quarter, while UIW drained 7-15 shots. The Cardinals walked away with a 58-55 win.  

UIW is back in action on Thursday at McNeese before returning home to host HCU on Saturday.
