UIW Athletics Extends Four Head Coach Contracts

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word and Athletic Director Richard Duran announced Tuesday four contract extensions; Head Football Coach Clint Killough, Head Volleyball Coach Gabryel Ording, Head Artistic Swimming Coach Alyson Tshuma, and Head Men's Soccer Coach Kiki Lara.

The former UIW student-athlete, Killough, took over the team in December of 2022 has coached the Cardinals to a 20-5 overall record finishing ranked in the top-15 of the FCS in both of his first two seasons, No. 14 in 2023 and No. 6 in 2024. Under his command the Cardinals have spent 25 straight weeks ranked in the top 25 national polls.

His student-athletes have not only experienced great team success, but also individually. Since Killough has taken over UIW has had 23 Southland All-Conference players, nine FCS All-Americans, four AP All-Americans, two Walter Payton Award and Buck Buchanan award finalist, the 2023 Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Year, along with the 2024 Southland Conference Player of the Year.

In his short tenure Killough has earned numerous awards. In 2024 alone he was named the Southland Coach of the Year, earned a spot on the AFCA 35 under 35, and was an Eddie Robinson Award finalist. After the 2023 season he was named to the Dave Campbell 40 under 40.

Ording, who was hired as the eighth head coach in UIW Women's Volleyball program history back in January 2023 has taken the program to new heights in her two seasons at the Word.

In her first year at UIW, Ording led the program to a record of 15-16. The 15 wins was the most the University's volleyball program had ever since transitioning to Division I in 2013.

Ording followed her record-setting first season by setting even more records in year two. In the 2024 season she led the Cardinals to a 17-11 overall record and a conference record of 9-7. The 17 wins set a new single season record and the nine SLC wins set a new single season record for conference play. Ording also led the program to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament for the first time since 2021.

Head Artistic Swimming Coach Alyson Tshuma also agreed to an extension. The Las Vegas native took over in September of 2022 and has already left a historic mark on the program and UIW as a whole. In just her second season as head coach Tshuma followed up her strong debut season by winning the first National Title in UIW history. Following her historic season, Tshuma was named Collegiate Coach of the Year.

As she heads into her third year, she has created individual success on top of the team's triumphs. Six of her student-athletes have earned All-Conference honors while 12 earned All-Academic Honors.

Head Men's Soccer Coach Ricardo "Kiki" Lara has agreed to an extension at UIW as well. Taking over in 2019, the UIW Hall of Famer has guided the Cardinals to great success, especially in their first two seasons in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). In 2023, the inagural season of OVC men's soccer, Lara led UIW to an impressive 5-3-3 record and a non-conference win over Gonzaga. The Cardinals made it all the way to the OVC Tournament Championship, losing a close battle to top-seeded SIUE. Three of his players were named to the All-Tournament team with four more being named to the All-Conference team.

2024 was another strong season for men's soccer as the team. Lara helped lead the team through a rocky start as the Cardinals finished the season on a nine-game unbeaten streak before eventually falling in the OVC Tournament Semi-Final. Once again, Lara's players succeeded individually as well with two players on the OVC All-Tournament, All-Newcomer, and All-Conference teams.
