NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team broke a six-game losing streak in dominant fashion, defeating the New Orleans Privateers 74-58 on Monday night.
Four Cardinals scored in the teens in New Orleans.
Jordan Pyke led the way with 15 points, while
Dylan Hayman,
Davion Bailey, and
Jayden Williams all added 14.
The Cardinals came out firing on all cylinders. In the first 10 minutes of the game six different Cardinals scored. As UIW rolled on offense behind three big dunks from
Marcus Glover,
Jayden Williams, and
Jordan Pyke, they kept the Privateers off the board for more than minutes, building a double-digit lead, 22-11.
The lockdown on the defensive end continued through the first half. With three minutes to go
Lamin Sabally joined the party, scoring his first points of the game to put UIW up 20 points, 36-16. The Cards went into the beak up big 38-20.
In the second half the Cardinals struggled from beyond the arc, starting 0-for-6 from three. However, it made no difference on the scoreboard as the lead stayed relatively the same through 10 minutes in the half as UIW led 57-36.
UIW was able to keep their foot on the gas never letting the lead drop below 16 and winning by a final score of 74-58.
