SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team avenged it's early January loss to Houston Christian by taking down the Huskies 74-64 in the McDermott Center on Saturday night.
The Cardinals started slow, shooting just about 20 percent from the field while the Huskies were knocking down nearly 60 percent of their shots. With eight minutes to go in the half HCU had built a double-digit lead 22-11.
Jalin Anderson wouldn't led the Cardinals go easily scoring three straight times down the floor for UIW.
Davion Bailey had a breakthrough in the final minutes of the half knocking down two corner threes' helping the Cardinals cut the lead to just two at the break, 34-36.
The two teams traded runs to start the second half. Finally, with 12 minutes in the games, the Cardinals retook the lead for the first time since the opening possession, 49-47. From there the Cardinals made it look easy, hitting shots from inside, outside, and the midrange working the lead up to as much as 10, 68-58.
Controlling possession, taking their time, and using all of the shot clock helped the Cardinals preserve that lead and walk away with a 74-64 win.
