SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost to the Texas A&M -Corpus Christi Islanders, 69-63, on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals made the first shot of the game but fell in double-digit hole, 16-5. The Islanders continued to roll, building the lead to the largest of the game at 15, 26-11, just under the 10-minute mark in the first half.
Davion Bailey once again found a way to be a difference maker scoring five of his seven first-half points in the final minutes of the first half to keep the Cardinals in it. After 20 minutes the Cardinals and Corpus were virtually even in assists, rebounds, and turnovers. However, the Islanders had the edge, 33-26, at the half.
It was more of the same for most of the second half. That was until UIW had four straight possessions with a stop on defense followed up with a score. The run wouldn't continue as the two teams began to trade buckets and the Cardinals were forced to intentionally foul. TAMU-CC was able to hold onto the lead and in the end UIW fell by a final score of 69-63.
