SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley 78-85 on Monday night.
 
Davion Bailey scored 28 points, Jalin Anderson added 18 with six assists. Dylan Hayman scored 14 points and was two rebounds away from a double-double, grabbing eight. 
 
The Cardinals were on the Vaqueros early starting the game on a 7-0 run. Davion Bailey was back on track, scoring 11 of the Cardinals first 15 points of the game and not missing a shot.
 
Former Cardinal Trey Miller started strong in attempt to keep UTRGV in the game, going a quick five-for-five. Kwo Agwa joined the party also scoring five times from the field in the first half. UIW maintained the lead for most of the first half but UTRGV was able to get their first lead of the game 27-26. Dylan Hayman stepped up for UIW down the stretch giving the Cardinals back the lead, scoring the final four points of the half, sending the Cardinals into the break up 37-33.
 
In the second half UIW was very streaky. Davion continued to put the ball in the basket pushing his point total to over 20 points just five minutes into the half. Behind some great offensive play UIW extended its lead to 12 points.
 
The Cardinals went cold as UTRGV went on a 20-7 run to take their second lead of the game 61-60. The two teams battled down the stretch, but the Vaqueros went on another run that the Cards couldn't come back from and won by a final score of 78-85.
