SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team went undefeated in the UTSA Invitational to extend its win streak to five matches. One of the Cardinals wins included its first win against UTSA in program history.
Game 1: UIW 3, ACU 1
The Cardinals dropped set one to the Wildcats before winning the next three to pick up the win. Risa Sena led the way in kills with 21. Calissa Allison recorded 31 assists and ten digs, while Teyhlor Thomas tallied four blocks.
Game 2: UIW 3, HC 0
UIW had no trouble putting away Holy Cross in its second matchup on Friday. Sena led both teams in kills with 12. Anuhea Faitau added 17 assists, while Audrey Patton made her mark with 14 digs.
Game 3: UIW 3, UTSA 2
The Cardinals showed resilience in its win against the Roadrunners. After winning sets one and two, the Cardinals had to rally in set five to come away with its first win against UTSA in program history. Sena continued to lead the way for UIW, finishing with 15 kills and 22 digs. She also added five blocks for good measure. Kade Thomas tallied nine of UIW's 15 blocks, while Allison recorded a triple-double with 13 kills, 25 assists, and 18 digs.
Sena and K. Thomas were named to the UTSA Invitational All-Tournament team. Allison was named the MVP of the tournament.
Volleyball is back in action on Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14, at the Cowgirl Classic.
