FRISCO – Sinead Duffy of the University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team was named the Southland Conference (SLC) offensive player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hailing from the pacific northwest, Duffy is from Gig Harbor, Washington. The junior scored the game winner in UIW's 1-0 upset win over Grand Canyon on September 19th. Sierra Wannamaker drew a penalty kick for the Cardinals and Duffy confidently stepped up and buried the shot into the left side.
Heading into the match, Grand Canyon had allowed just four goals on the season and only one in the previous five matches. They also were tied for 19th nationally in goals against average (.444).
Duffy is playing in her third season for the Cardinals and has scored five goals.
