SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer program honored five seniors before its final match of the regular season against Houston Christian Thursday night.
The team held a ceremony to commemorate the careers of soon-to-be-departing players
Kiana Villa,
Tyler Coker,
Taylor Kish,
Montanna Mathews and
Alex Knutson.
On the field, the Cardinals concluded the regular season with a 1-0 loss to the Huskies, who got the game's lone goal from Paisley Barela in the 25th minute.
Villa nearly had a miraculous moment in her final home game, and she got great velocity on a shot from roughly 25 yards out with five seconds remaining, only for it to bounce off the cross bar and out of play as time expired.
UIW closes the regular season with a record of 8-8-3 and a 5-4-1 mark in the Southland Conference.
The season will continue for the Cardinals next week, as with 16 points, they earned the No. 4 seed at the seven-team SLC Tournament. They will open against No. 5 seed Nicholls next Tuesday.
Times for the conference tournament will be posted to uiwcardinals.com once they have been announced by the Southland Conference.
