SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team secured a 3-0 victory over PVAMU and dropped a 4-0 decision to Texas State.
Game 1: UIW 3, PVAMU 0
The Cardinals hit the ground running, scoring two goals in as many minutes. Freshman Peri Olmo headed in her first collegiate goal with a header off a cross from junior Sinead Duffy in the ninth minute. In the following minute, Sierra Wannamaker contested a ball with a Panther defender near the endline and found the back of the net.
In the second half, sophomore Janaya Doane scored her first goal as a Cardinal with a header off a corner kick cross from Alex Knutson.
Graduate student Faith Davies recorded a shutout in her first UIW start and finished the match with five saves.
Game 2: UIW 0, Texas State 4
The Lady Bobcats scored their first goal in the third minute. UIW pressured and had three shots and three corner kicks. The Lady Bobcats added another in the 19th minute and carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, UIW pressured more, recording five shots and five corner kicks. Texas State scored one more in the 67th minute to go up 3-0 and then netted one from the penalty spot in the 85th minute.
UIW stays on the road this week with a match against Sam Houston on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Huntsville.
