HOUSTON, TEXAS - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost 4-2 to Houston Christian University (HCU) on Thursday afternoon at Husky Field.
The Huskies got on the board in the third on a sacrifice fly to give them a 1-0 advantage.
A solo home run in the fifth for HCU extended the lead to 2-0.
An RBI double in the seventh and a sacrifice bunt in the eighth pushed the Huskies lead to 4-0 entering the ninth.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the ninth, bringing the final score to 4-2. Grant Randall singled in a run, and Ryan Scott drew a bases-loaded walk.
Josh Salinas pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while tallying eight strikeouts in the loss.
UIW and HCU face off tomorrow in game two. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
