SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost game two of its three-game series to Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) 13-7 on Saturday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
The Cardinals scored two in the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Grant Randall drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Daniel Calabrese singled in a run to put UIW ahead.
SLU took a 4-2 lead in the second on a grand slam.
Dalton Beck crushed his 15th homer of the season to pull the Cardinals within one in the third. Later in the inning, UIW scored two runs on an error to take a 5-4 lead.
Beck scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to extend the Cardinals' lead to 6-4.
The Lions retook the lead in the fifth on back-to-back home runs.
SLU scored four runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 11-6. Two more runs for the Lions in the seventh stretched the lead to 13-6.
Ryan Scott belted a homer in the eighth to bring the final score to 13-7.
UIW and SLU close out the series on Sunday, May 12. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. The Cardinals will celebrate Senior Day following game three.
