Waco, TX - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team was defeated by Baylor on Friday night, 13-7 at Baylor Ballpark. The Cardinals were down as much as 11, but scored runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to pull within six.
The Cardinals got on the board in the first with a Dalton Beck two-run slam to give UIW a 2-0 lead. The Bears responded with a grand slam later in the inning to take a 4-2 lead after one.
Baylor put up four runs on five hits in the second, highlighted by a two-run homer, to extend the lead to 8-2.
The Bears added a run on two hits in the third to push the lead to 9-3.
In the fourth, Baylor scored four runs on three hits and an error to take a 13-2 lead.
Former Bear, Cameron Caley doubled off the wall to drive in a run in the fifth to bring the score to 13-3.
JD Gregson singled in a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 13-4.
In the seventh the Cardinals had two men on when Tony DeJesus crushed his second homer of the season to pull UIW within six, 13-7.
The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow, April 6 in Waco. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
