BEAUMONT, TEXAS - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost 3-2 to Lamar University (LU) on Saturday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Cardinals led most of the game until Lamar's offense came alive in the final innings.
UIW wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the second on an RBI single by Ryan Scott. The Cardinals used four hits in the second to take a 1-0 lead.
Daniel Calabrese singled in a run in the seventh to extend the lead to 2-0 for UIW. Later in the inning, Lamar scored two to tie the game at 2-2.
LU took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the eighth to bring the score to 3-2.
The Cardinals got the tying run on base in the ninth, but Lamar prevailed, winning 3-2.
Isaiah Zavala was incredible on the mound for UIW. Zavala allowed one earned run in seven innings while striking out three.
The Cardinals are back for game three on Sunday, April 28. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
