SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team came up short, losing to the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA), 7-4, on Tuesday afternoon at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
The Cardinals struck first putting up three runs in the first frame. Dalton Beck singled in a run and Ryan Scott crushed a two-run homer to right to take a 3-0 lead after one.
After two scoreless innings, the Roadrunners put up five runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.
In the fifth, UTSA extended its lead to 6-3 on an RBI single.
The game would remain 6-3 until the ninth when the Roadrunners added a run on an RBI single to bring the score to 7-3. Later in the inning, the Cardinals scored on a Grant Randall RBI single to bring the tying run to the plate down 7-4. UIW would end the game with the bases loaded, losing 7-4.
UIW is on the road this weekend, April 5-7 as they take on Baylor. First pitch for Friday night is set for 6:30 p.m.
