Baseball Sweeps McNeese on the Road

LAKE CHARLES, La – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team took home a Southland Conference series sweep against McNeese State University on Sunday after defeating the Cowboys 10-5 in the final game. On the series, the Cardinals totaled 38 hits, 28 runs, 27 RBIs, and six home runs. 
 
Cameron Caley started the game with a double followed by a Ryan Scott RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead. Then, with the bases loaded in the second, Caley shot a two-RBI single to right field, extending the lead to three.
 
McNeese got on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI double to bring the score to 3-1.
 
Dalton Beck saw his fourth home run of the week in the third inning (4-1) and the Cardinals added four more runs in the fourth, preying on the Cowboy pitching staff. McNeese walked Ryan Scott and Rey Mendoza with the bases loaded to score Tyler Cowan and Grant Randall. Daniel Calabrese was then hit by a pitch to plate Caley, and Tony DeJesus capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring Scott home for a seven-run lead (8-1).
 
The Cowboys added a run in the bottom of the fourth (8-2).
 
JD Gregson added a couple of insurance runs in the sixth off a two-RBI homer to bring the score to 10-2.
 
McNeese looked to come back in the ninth with three runs but fell short as the Cardinals took the series.
