SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team put up a fight in the bottom of the ninth, scoring four runs, but ultimately dropped a, 10-8, midweek contest against Texas State University at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
 
The Bobcats' bats were hot from the start as Texas State put up three runs in the top of the first (3-0).
 
Both TXST and UIW scored in the fourth to bring the score to 4-1. Then, Tony DeJesus sent a solo homer right over Texas State's right fielder in the fifth, putting the Cardinals within two at 4-2.
 
Texas State added three more runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-2.
 
Dalton Beck secured his fifth home run in the last five games in the seventh inning (8-3).
 
The Bobcats added two more runs in the top of the eighth before UIW answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Scott singled to left field, advanced to second on an error, and crossed home plate on a Rey Mendoza hit to right field to bring the score to 10-4.
 
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Rob Liddington Jr. snuck home on a passed ball then Ryder Hernandez hit an RBI single to the left side to plate DeJesus. Grant Randall lined out to center field as Luca Boscarino scored and Hernandez scored on a fielder's choice for the final run of the night. The Cardinals put up a fight, but the Bobcats took the game, 10-8.
