SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball fell to the Southeastern Louisiana Lions in their final home game of the 2023-24 season, 73-56.
UIW fell in an early 9-0 hole. The Cardinals responded by letting it fly from the 3-point line. The first six shots the Cards scored from the field all came from behind the arc, with the biggest coming with just under eight minutes left in the first half, when
Josiah Hammons knocked down his fourth 3-pointer of the game putting UIW up 21-19. The Cardinals and Lions traded buckets in the final minutes of the half and UIW trailed at the break 30-31.
UIW came out of the locker room looking to shoot, hitting two early 3-pointers. However, the Cardinals went cold and shot 18 percent from the field through the first 10 minutes of the second half. On the other end Southeastern turned up the heat on offense, converting on more than 50 percent of their shots during that same time. Halfway through the second half, the Lions had control of the game with a 51-37 lead.
The Cardinals made a few pushes, cutting the lead to under 10 points, but couldn't get over the hump. UIW fell by a final score of 56-73.
