Baseball Drops Series Finale to Privateers

New Orleans, LA - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost on a walk-off single to the University of New Orleans (UNO) on Saturday afternoon, 10-9. The Privateers scored five in the ninth to complete the comeback and take the series.  

The Cardinals got on the board quick, putting up three runs in the first frame. UIW scored an unearned run on a Rob Liddington Jr. single and Tony DeJesus cleared the bases on a two-run single through the left side of the infield.  

In the second, the Privateers scored three to tie the game at 3-3. 

After three scoreless innings, UIW put up four runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead. DeJesus singled in his third run of the afternoon to break the tie. A JD Gregson RBI double, followed by a sacrifice fly from Ryder Hernandez and an RBI double by Cameron Caley capped off the scoring for the Cardinals. 

A two-run homer in the seventh by the Privateers brought the score to 7-5 entering the eighth. 

Dalton Beck doubled in a run in the eighth to extend UIW's lead to 8-5. 

Liddington crushed a solo shot over the left field wall in the ninth to push the lead to 9-5. UNO responded with a five-run ninth inning to steal the series finale, 10-9. 

The Cardinals return home to take on UTSA in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 2. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
