Men's Basketball Drops Game to UNO

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost to the New Orleans Privateers 80-87 on Saturday night.

Three UIW student-athletes scored more than 10 points in the game. Josiah Hammons had a team high 23, Dylan Hayman scored 21, and Josh Akpovwa had a career high 17 points.

The Cardinals took the first lead of the game, when Akpovwa took it to the rim for two. New Orleans went on a 15-3 run to take control of the game and didn't look back. Akpovwa continued to play well on offense scoring nine points, Josiah Hammons played some good minutes scoring 12, and Hayman added seven. However, the Privateers didn't surrender the lead in the first half. The score at the break was 39-36.

The Cards clawed their way back into the game, taking their second lead of the game on a Dylan Hayman 3-pointer that put UIW up 43-40. From there the two teams traded baskets down the stretch. In the end, UNO was able to rally behind 20 second-half points from Jordan Johnson to win the game by a final score of 87-80.
