NEW ORLEANS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team narrowly beat the New Orleans Privateers 82-80, Saturday evening on the road.
Three Cardinals scored in double figures.
Sky Wicks recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 27 and 15.
Alex Anderson had 16 points to go along with 14 from
Dylan Hayman, and
Josiah Hammons added a big eight points and eight rebounds for UIW.
The Cardinals started slow on the offensive side of the ball. However, the Cards were able to hang around by out rebounding the Privateers 18-11 in the first half. UIW was led by
Sky Wicks who nearly had a double-double in the first 20 minutes scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
Alex Anderson was a game changer in the half, only missing one shot and scoring 10 points. The Cardinals went in the locker room with a two-point lead, 38-36.
Early in the second the Cardinals were able to extend their lead to the largest of the game at nine, 51-42. Over the next eight minutes, the Privateers scored more than double the points of the Cardinals 14-6, to cut the lead to one, 57-56.
Down the stretch the Cardinals continued to put the ball in the basket, recording their highest scoring game of SLC play, earning their first road conference win of the season 82-80 in New Orleans.
