SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team heads into the holiday break undefeated in Southland Conference play (2-0) after defeating East Texas A&M University, 76-55 on Friday afternoon at the McDermott Center. Once again, the Cardinals showed balance scoring as
Raimi McCrary (16),
Dorian Norris (15) and
Myra Bell (12) lead the scoring effort. McCrary led UIW on the boards with 10 for her second double-double of the season.
Head Coach Dow named paint points as one of the keys to the game and the Cardinals did just that, outscoring the Lions 36-14 around the rim and 21-5 on second chance points behind 12 team offensive boards.
Bell pulled up to reclaim a 4-3 lead early in the game and the Cardinals never looked back, holding a 14-9 edge over the Lions at the end of the first quarter.
The Cardinals opened the second quarter on a 10-point scoring run, holding ETAMU to just two points through the first five minutes of the quarter. Six quick points behind back-to-back 3-pointers from Bell started off the hot streak. Norris and Lusby also added fuel for the Cardinals with both converting three-point plays down below to maintain a 10-point lead at the half (36-26).
ETAMU tried to make a run at the game early in the second half, but the Cardinals outscored the Lions 21-18 in the third, keeping East Texas A&M at bay with a 57-44 game heading into the final 10 minutes. UIW kept its foot on the gas in the fourth quarter to end the game with a 20-point Southland Conference victory.
