Women’s Basketball Cruise to a Win to Close Out 2024

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated the Our Lady of the Lake Saints 104-37 after more than a week off. This is the highest-scoring game for the Cardinals since 2016 (the second most points scored in Division I program history).

Every Cardinal that played scored for UIW. They were led by Shiho Isono and Destiny Whitaker, who scored 19 points. Jorja Elliott (13), Raimi McCrary (12), and Madison Cockrell (12) were the other three players to score in double-figures for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals came out of the gates fast, the first bucket of the game was a 3-pointer from Elliott. While the offense was in rhythm, the defense kept UIW in charge as the Cardinals held the Saints scoreless in the first quarter.

The second quarter was more of the same. The Cardinals dominated in all areas of the court, forcing four more turnovers, outrebounding the Saints 12-10, and outscoring them 19-11. UIW went into the locker room up 45-11.

The Cardinals scored a game-high 32 points in the third quarter. OLLU made 4-13 shots in the third. However, the Cardinals were too much entering the fourth with a 77-22 lead.

Whitaker went 6-9 from the field in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals continued to roll to a 67-point win over OLLU.
