Cardinals Win Big at Home Against Schreiner

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated the Schreiner Mountaineers 86-34 after more than a week off. This is the highest scoring game for the Cardinals two years.

Every Cardinal that played scored for UIW. They were led by Brynn Lusby who had a career high 23 points. Raimi McCrary and Myra Bell were the other two players to score in double-figures for the Cardinals each adding 10.

The Cardinals came out of the gates fast, the first bucket of the game was a 3-pointer from the Southland Conference Player of the Week Jorja Elliot. While the offense was in rhythm, it was the defense that kept UIW in charge as the Cardinals forced 10 turnovers and scored 11 points on those turnovers in just the first quarter. After Elliot drilled another three in the final seconds of the quarter the Cardinals led 19-9.

The second quarter was more of the same. The Cardinals dominated in all areas of the court, forcing five more turnovers, out rebounding the Mountaineers 14-4, and outscoring 22-7. By the end of the second quarter all but one of the Cardinals who played had found the bottom of the net and UIW went into the locker room up 41-16.

The third quarter was the most tightly contested 10 minutes of the game. More than half of Schreiner's made shots in the third came from behind the arc as they attempted to chip away at the lead. However, the Cardinals were too much closing the third on a 14-3 run, 12 of those points coming in the paint, and headed into the fourth with the largest to that point 64-29.

Brynn Lusby scored 15 points in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals continued to roll to a 57-point win over Schreiner, 93-36.
