NATCHITOCHES, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team picked up a Thursday night win, 25-27, 25-15, 25-17, 25-14, over Northwestern State at the Prather Coliseum. The win gave the Cardinals the regular season sweep over the Demons.
The Cardinals (15-8, 8-5) Thursday night win tied the program's most wins in a season (15) and tied the most wins in conference (8) in program history.
Finley Evans and Calissa Allison led the team in kills with 17. Allison also tallied 21 assists and 16 digs to record her ninth triple-double of the season.
Kade Thomas, the Cardinals leader in blocks, recorded three blocks to bring her season total to 89.
Senior setter Anuhea Faitau led the Cardinals in assists with 28.
Audrey Patton, the reigning Southland Conference defensive player of the week, led the team in digs with 19 on the evening.
Set 1: UIW 25 (0), NWST 27 (1)
The Demons and Cardinals played a very close first set, leading to extra volleyball being played in set one. The Demons got the final two points to take the set.
Set 2: UIW 25 (1), NWST 15 (1)
The Cardinals trailed 1-0 early and never trailed again to win set two in commanding fashion. UIW led by as many as nine before closing out NWST. Risa Sena, Evans, and Allison led all players with four kills.
Set 3: UIW 25 (2), NWST 17 (1)
UIW never trailed in set three en route to taking a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals led by as many as eight before putting an end to the set. Evans led all players in kills with six.
Set 4: UIW 25 (3), NWST 14 (1)
Set four was tightly contested until the Cardinals used a late 9-0 run to shut the door on the Demons. Allison and Evans led all players with five kills in the final frame.
The Cardinals are back at the McDermott Center this Saturday to take on East Texas A&M. UIW will celebrate senior day for the Cardinals' final home game of the season.
