RIVERSIDE, CA – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell in the first game of the season to the Cal Baptist Lancers 83-78 in Riverside on Monday night.
The two Ball State transfers
Davion Bailey and
Jalin Anderson dominated the game. Bailey had a historic night, scoring 41 points on 17 made field goals setting the single game scoring and made field goal UIW record. Anderson added 20 points of his own.
The first 10 minutes of the game were all
Davion Bailey. He started the game a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, 4-for-4 from three, for 20 points. His stellar offensive performance had the Cardinals in control up 26-18.
UIW continued to build on Bailey's buckets and get to their largest lead of the game 41-25 with just four minutes left in the half. The Lancers turned things around down the stretch, closing the half on a 9-to-2 run, chipping away at the Cardinal lead. UIW went into the half up 43-34.
Coming out of the locker room CBU came storming back. After trailing for all but one minute in the game the seven different Lancers scored and CBU retook the lead 52-51.
Jalin Anderson kept the Cardinals in the game scoring the first 11 points for UIW in the second half.
Davion Bailey joined the party scoring the next seven for the Cards putting UIW back in front, 61-60, with 10 minutes remaining.
Anderson and Bailey continued to put the ball in the basketball but only two other Cardinals found the bottom of the net. UIW fell in the end by a final score of 83-78.
