MOBILE, AL – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost in the first game of the Jaguar Classic to South Alabama 84-63 on Monday night in Mobile.
 
The Cardinals came out firing from deep, knocking down two three-pointers and scoring the first eight points of the game. South Alabama responded scoring eight points of their own and bringing the game level. The teams traded buckets once again before UIW went on a five-minute scoring drought.
 
Jordan Pyke got the scoring going again, knocking down a three and then scoring eight straight points. Three-pointers kept the Cardinals in the game for most of the first half as half of UIW's made field goals came from beyond the arc. However, the Jaguars closed the half on a 9-0 run and went into the locker room up 39-30.
 
The Cardinals struggled after the half only knocking down one three-pointer in the first 10 minutes as the Jaguars continued to extend their lead, working it up to 20 midway through the half.
 
UIW attempted to keep pace, finding their rhythm on the offensive end. In the end the Cardinals could not find a way to cut into the lead and fell by a final score of 84-63.
