Box Score MOBILE, AL – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team took down the Western Illinois Leathernecks 86-75 in the final game of the Jaguar Classic before Thanksgiving.
Davion Bailey led the team in scoring with 23 points, 21 of which came in the second half. Three other Cardinals,
Jalin Anderson (18),
Dylan Hayman (17), and
Shon Robinson (10) scored in double figures as UIW shot an amazing 53 percent from the field.
This game was played completely different from the first of the week where half of the Cardinals first half field goals were from beyond the arc. In the first 20 minutes against Western Illinois the Cardinals dominated down low, scoring 28 of their 35 points in the paint.
Sharing the ball was the name of the game as UIW racked up eight assists compared to one for WIU and seven different players put the ball in the basket, carrying a 35-32 lead into the locker room.
Coming out of the break the Leathernecks made a run, briefly taking the lead for 10 seconds. However,
Jalin Anderson and
Davion Bailey took over in the second half. In the first 10 minutes Bailey knocked down three, three-pointers for an easy nine points and Anderson added eight from the field. These two extended the Cardinal lead to 59-52 heading in to the final minutes of the game.
Bailey continued to let it fly finishing the half with 21 points and six made three-pointers and the Cardinals walked away with an 86-75 win.
