FLAGSTAFF, AZ – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost in the final seconds to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 75-74 on Friday night.
 
Jalin Anderson recorded his second consecutive double-double, scoring 12 points and making 10 assists. Shon Robinson added 13 points off the bench in his second game of the season.
 
The Cardinals got out to a slow start missing their first four shots of the game. After the first couple of minutes UIW found their rhythm. Seven different Cardinals scored, including nine points off the bench from Shon Robinson and Jayden Williams. Only the starters contributed to the Lumberjacks offensive efforts in the first half as NAU had zero points off the bench in the first 20 minutes.
 
Along with this, the Cardinals didn't commit a turnover in the first half and were able to score eight points off  NAU turnovers. However, the Cardinals lost the rebound battle 24-15 and made half the free throws of NAU in the half. The Lumberjacks led by as much as 18 in the first half but UIW was able to hang around and went into the locker room down 10, 32-42.
 
The second half was fast and physical. There were a combined 18 fouls called in just the first six minutes of play, but the Cardinals thrived. After shooting better than 70 percent from the field and a perfect four-for-four from three Shon Robinson gave UIW its first lead of the game on 53-52.
 
Northern Arizona quickly retook the lead and held it for most of the second half. With four minutes to mount the full comeback the Cardinals went on a 10-2 run, taking a four point lead. With 1:20 remaining UIW looked to be in control but after NAU was able to sink two free throws and a three pointer UIW was down again with 18 seconds to go. The Cards had a look at the basket but were unable to convert and fell to Northern Arizona for the second year in a row by one, 75-74.
