Volleyball Picks up Historic Win to Keep the Hot Streak Alive

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team picked up its first win in program history over Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a five-set thriller, 25-23, 20-25, 17-25, 25-20, 15-9 at the McDermott Center on Saturday afternoon.      

The Cardinals (14-7, 7-4) extended its win streak to five games, after picking up its first win in program history over the Islanders.        

Four Cardinals finished the game with double-digit kills, including Calissa Allison who led all Cardinals in kills with 19. Allison also led both teams in assists with two and recorded her eighth triple-double with 21 assists and 12 digs.  

Kade Thomas, the Cardinals leader in blocks recorded 5 blocks to bring her season total to 82.   

Senior setter, Anuhea Faitau led the Cardinals in assists with 28. 

Audrey Patton led both teams in digs with a season-high 31 on the afternoon.    

Set 1: UIW 25 (1), AMCC 20 (0)    

A back-and-forth set one set the table for a stellar match. Risa Sena led both teams in kills with five in the set.  

Set 2: UIW 20 (1), AMCC 25 (1)   

The Islanders controlled the set taking a commanding 8-0 lead to start things off. The Cardinals pulled within four, but AMCC shut the door to even things up. Kyla Malone led both teams in kills with six. 

Set 3: UIW 17 (1), AMCC 25 (2)   

AMCC took control of the set after taking a commanding 22-12 lead to take a two set to one lead over the Cardinals.  

Set 4: UIW 25 (2), AMCC 20 (2) 

After falling behind 1-0, the Cardinals never trailed in the set again. The Islanders pulled within four late, but it was too little too late. Allison led both teams in assists with five.  

Set 5: UIW 15 (3), AMCC 9 (2) 

The Cardinals controlled the entire fifth set to complete the come-from-behind win. UIW pulled ahead 10-5 before shutting the door on the Islanders. 

The Cardinals are on the road Tuesday night as they take on Houston Christian for the second time this season.
