EDINBURG – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team was swept on Thursday night, 18-25, 14-25, 24-26, against UTRGV at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
The Cardinals (16-9, 9-6) fell to UTRGV in a sweep for the second time this season.
Risa Sena led the team in kills with seven.
Kade Thomas, the Cardinals leader in blocks, recorded three blocks to bring her season total to 96.
Senior setter, Anuhea Faitau led the Cardinals in assists with 11.
Calissa Allison led the team in digs with 12 in the loss.
Set 1: UIW 18 (0), UTRGV 25 (1)
The Vaqueros came out hot, taking a commanding 7-3 lead out of the gate. UIW pulled within two, but UTRGV would go on a run to take set one. Sena led all players in kills with four.
Set 2: UIW 14 (0), UTRGV 25 (2)
UTRGV never trailed in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. Allison led all players in digs with six.
Set 3: UIW 24 (0), UTRGV 26 (3)
After going down 21-16, the Cardinals rallied to take a 23-22 lead. The Vaqueros would get the final three points to secure the win.
The Cardinals close out the regular season on the road at Corpus Christi on Saturday.
