CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team lost its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon, 30-28, 15-25, 18-25, 16-25, against Texas A&M Corpus Christi at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The Cardinals (16-10, 9-7) split its regular season series with the Islanders following the loss.
Finley Evans led the team in kills with 13.
Kade Thomas, the Cardinals leader in blocks recorded two blocks to bring her season total to 98. Evans also recorded two blocks.
Senior setter, Natalie Kimmel led the Cardinals in assists with 21.
Risa Sena led the team in digs with 18 in the loss.
Set 1: UIW 30 (1), AMCC 28 (0)
The Cardinals were down 24-20 before coming back to tie things up at 24-24. UIW would go on to win the wild first set to take a 1-0 lead. Calissa Allison led the Cardinals in kills with five in the set.
Set 2: UIW 15 (1), AMCC 25 (1)
AMCC and UIW played a close set, until a late 4-0 run pushed the Islanders ahead by six. Corpus was able to pull away to even things up after two.
Set 3: UIW 18 (1), AMCC 25 (2)
The Cardinals were down three, 19-16 but an Islander 4-0 run late in the set put the set out of reach to give AMCC a 2-1 lead.
Set 4: UIW 16 (1), AMCC 25 (3)
The Islanders shut the door on the Cardinals with a 6-0 run late in the set to finish the regular season undefeated at home.
The Cardinals will be the fifth seed in this year's Southland Conference Tournament. UIW will take on the fourth seed UTRGV Vaqueros on Friday, November 22 at 4 p.m.
