SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team won an instant classic against Houston Christian University, 25-19, 25-13, 21-25, 22-25, 16-14 at the McDermott Center on Saturday.    

The Cardinals (9-6, 2-3) picked up its second consecutive conference win.    

Calissa Allison once again left her mark on the match as she recorded her fifth triple-double. Allison put up 15 kills, 18 assists, and 14 digs. 

The game-winning block came from the team leader in blocks, Kade Thomas. She recorded a total of six blocks in the win. 

For the third game in a row, Finley Evans led the Cardinals in kills with 15.  

Set 1: UIW 25 (1), HCU 19 (0)   

The Cardinals and Huskies were trading point-for-point until the Cardinals used a 5-0 run late in the set to pull away. Evans and Allison led all players with four kills in the set.  

Set 2: UIW 25 (2), HCU 13 (0)  

UIW controlled set two right out of the gate, going on a 5-0 run for the first points of the set. Evans and Teyhlor Thomas led all players in kills with four.  

Set 3: UIW 21 (2), HCU 25 (1)  

HCU got things going in set three behind the teams 13 kills and four blocks.  

Set 4: UIW 22 (2), HCU 25 (2) 

Set four included seven ties as UIW had to battle back, pulling within two before HCU closed the door on set four.  

Set 5: UIW 16 (3), HCU 14 (2) 

After going down 8-3, the Cardinals battled back to tie things up at 11-11. K. Thomas shut the door on the match with her game-winning block. 

UIW will be home on Saturday afternoon when it will face Stephen F. Austin at 12:00 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
