SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team lost in five sets to second place SFA, 18-25, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 9-15 at the McDermott Center on Saturday.
Following the loss, the Cardinals (9-7, 2-4) fell to eighth place in the conference standings.
Calissa Allison picked up her third consecutive triple-double. Allison put up 15 kills (team-high), 24 assists, and 11 digs. This was Allison's conference-leading sixth triple-double of the season.
The Cardinals leader in blocks, Kade Thomas recorded three blocks with seven kills and a .412 hitting percentage.
Senior setter Anuhea Faitau led UIW in assists with 25. Finley Evans led the team in digs with 14 and was tied for the lead in aces with two.
Set 1: UIW 18 (0), SFA 25 (1)
The Ladyjacks controlled set one, finishing with a game-high 16 kills in the set to seal the win.
Set 2: UIW 20 (0), SFA 25 (2)
UIW and SFA played a back-and-forth set until the Ladyjacks pulled away late with a 4-0 run.
Set 3: UIW 25 (1), SFA 23 (2)
The Cardinals got things going in set three, finishing with its most kills in a set, 15, and a set-best .209 hitting percentage. Allison led all players with four kills, while K. Thomas and Alex Beauchamp added three.
Set 4: UIW 25 (2), SFA 23 (2)
Set four included seven ties and five lead changes and ended with a Cardinal kill to seal the win. E ans led UIW in digs and kills with five each.
Set 5: UIW 9 (2), SFA 15 (3)
After being outplayed by the Cardinals in sets three and four, the Ladyjacks came out hot to close out the match.
UIW will be on the road for both matches this upcoming week. On Thursday, the Cardinals will be at Nicholls, and on Saturday, they will visit McNeese.
