SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team won in straight sets to Northwestern State University, 26-24, 25-20, 25-14 at the McDermott Center on Saturday.
The Cardinals (8-6, 1-3) picked up its first conference win of the season following a tough three-game skid to kick off SLC play.
Calissa Allison was huge today as she recorded her fourth triple-double of the season. Allison put up 10 kills, 17 assists, and 12 digs.
Half of the Cardinals' 12 blocks came from the team leader in blocks, Kade Thomas.
Finley Evans led UIW in kills with 12 for the second game in a row.
Set 1: UIW 26 (1), NWST 24 (0)
The first set was back-and-forth, with UIW pulling away late before NWST made a comeback. After the Demons took a 25-24 lead, the Cardinals closed out the set with back-to-back points to take the set. The Cardinals finished set one with 11 kills.
Set 2: UIW 25 (2), NWST 20 (0)
UIW controlled set two, never trailing. The Cardinals posted 15 kills on a .289 hitting percentage, along with three blocks in the set.
Set 3: UIW 25 (3), NWST 14 (0)
The third set was Cardinals all the way as they finished off the sweep of the Demons. UIW put up a match-high 17 kills and a .486 hitting percentage in the closing set to seal the win.
UIW remains at home for a Tuesday night matchup against Houston Christian at 6:00 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
