SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team swept Lamar, 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 at the McDermott Center on Thursday evening to close out the month of October.
The Cardinals (13-7, 6-4) extended its win streak to four games, including wins over Nicholls, McNeese, and New Orleans.
Three Cardinals finished the game with double-digit kills, including Finley Evans, who led all players in kills with 12.
Teyhlor Thomas led both teams in blocks, recording six, to bring her season total to 58.
Senior setter Anuhea Faitau led both teams in assists with 21.
In her return to the starting lineup, Risa Sena led both teams in digs with 14.
Calissa Allison recorded her seventh triple-double of the season, totaling 11 kills, 15 assists, and 12 digs.
Set 1: UIW 25 (1), LU 15 (0)
UIW never trailed and went up by as much as eight to close out set one. Evans recorded five kills, while Faitau tallied eight assists.
Set 2: UIW 25 (2), LU 19 (0)
Set two was back and forth with six ties and four lead changes. Lamar pulled within one at 20-19 before UIW went on a 5-0 run to close the set.
Set 3: UIW 25 (3), LU 19 (0)
After falling behind 4-3, UIW used a 6-0 run to pull away. Lamar came back to pull within one before UIW ended things in straight sets.
The Cardinals will host Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Saturday at 12 pm. to end its three-game homestand.
