LAKE CHARLES, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team beat McNeese in four sets, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 at the Legacy Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals (11-7, 4-4) moved to .500 in Southland Conference play with the win.
Calissa Allison led all Cardinals in kills with 17 on the afternoon. Allison also led both teams in assists with 25.
The Cardinals leader in blocks, Kade Thomas recorded six blocks with five kills.
Senior setter, Anuhea Faitau and Finley Evans led the team in digs with 14.
Set 1: UIW 20 (0), MCN 25 (1)
McNeese never trailed in the set and finished with a set-high 16 kills in the set to seal the win.
Set 2: UIW 25 (1), MCN 20 (1)
Set two was back-and-forth until the Cardinals used a 4-0 run late in the set to pull away. Allison led both teams in kills with six in the set.
Set 3: UIW 25 (2), MCN 18 (1)
The Cowgirls jumped out of the gate to an early 6-2 lead in the third set. However, the Cardinals went on a run of its own tying things up at 10-10 before pulling away to win it.
Set 4: UIW 25 (3), MCN 16 (1)
UIW went down 1-0 and never trailed again in the fourth and final set. The Cardinals were up by as much as ten before closing things out. Sofia Grimm and Kyla Malone led the Cardinals in kills with four in set four.
UIW has a little break before returning to action at home on Saturday against New Orleans.
