SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell in overtime to the Nicholls Colonels, 74-78.
The first half was a tightly contested battle. The Cardinals struck first getting out to an early lead behind three straight 3-point plays. The Colonels were able to respond, taking the lead and holding onto that lead for almost all of the first half. Down the stretch
Alex Anderson and
Josh Akpovwa took over on the offensive end, scoring 19 points between the two of them and giving UIW the 35-34 lead at the break.
UIW came out of the break shooting well, and the Cardinals found themselves with their largest lead of the game, 50-41, midway through the second half. The Cards went on a scoring drought over the next five minutes, allowing the Colonels to get back into the game. The two teams traded bucket and finished regulation tied 78-74.
In overtime UIW was narrowly outscored 16-12 and fell in overtime by a final score of 78-74.
