SAN ATONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team dropped its first game of a three-game home stand, against the McNeese State Cowboys, 66-80, on Saturday night.
In the first half the Cowboys kept the pressure on the Cardinals, forcing eight turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the game. UIW was able to stay in the game, behind their 3-point shooting, three different Cardinals knocked down a shot behind the arc. With five minutes left in the half the Cardinals found themselves down 35-15.
Josiah Hammons scored his first points of the game, making back-to-back three's igniting the Cardinal scoring. UIW outscored the Cowboys 15-7 in the final minutes of the half and went into the break down 42-30.
The second half was a tightly contested battle, with each team trading runs. However, the Cardinals were never able to significantly cut into the deficit and fell to the Cowboys 66-80.
