Natchitoches, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell to the Northwestern State Demons, 97-71, in their third game of Southland Conference play.
Coming out of the gates
Breno Silva and
Josh Akpovwa handled the scoring for the Cards, each scoring six straight points. The rest of the UIW roster was able to settle in throughout the first half by capitalizing on easy points off turnovers. The Cardinals scoring 15 points on 12 turnovers in the half. Despite winning the turnover battle and holding the lead for more than 12 minutes the Cardinals trailed by three, 38-35, at the break.
Akpovwa started the second half just as fast as he did the first, scoring three straight buckets for UIW. Northwestern State caught on fire after that, going on a 20-3 run, getting out to a 20-point lead. The Devils were able to maintain control and hold on to their lead, earning the 97-71 win.
