The Cardinals are coming off of a hard-fought 28-14 loss to the University of Texas at El Paso (FBS) last Saturday at the Sun Bowl.

UNC is coming off of a 31-11 loss against Abilene Christian University (ACU), whom UIW will face in week three.

Defensive back, Tizell Lewi, led the team with six solo and eight total tackles in the game.

The Bears have yet to take on the Cardinals in football, but the two have faced similar opponents. In 2021 UNC earned a 45-13 win over HCU and has split games with Lamar over the past two seasons, losing 17-10 in 2021 and getting a 21-14 win last year.

In his first game as a Cardinal, Zach Calzada completed 18 of his 31 pass attempts for 245 yards and one touchdown.

Brandon Porter was on the receiving end of six of those passes, gaining 94 yards and one touchdown.
