SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team is on the road again for a matchup with the Northern Colorado Bears on Saturday, September 9 at 3 p.m. CT.

• The Cardinals are coming off of a hard-fought 28-14 loss to the University of Texas at El Paso (FBS) last Saturday at the Sun Bowl.  

• UIW is now ranked No. 10 in the FCS Stats Perform and FCS Coaches Poll. 

• The Cardinals put up a total of 308 yards in the season opener behind 245 in the air.  

SCOUTING THE BEARS 

• UNC is coming off of a 31-11 loss against Abilene Christian University (ACU), whom UIW will face in week three.  

• Defensive back, Tizell Lewi, led the team with six solo and eight total tackles in the game.  

• The Bears have yet to take on the Cardinals in football, but the two have faced similar opponents. In 2021 UNC earned a 45-13 win over HCU and has split games with Lamar over the past two seasons, losing 17-10 in 2021 and getting a 21-14 win last year.

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

• In his first game as a Cardinal, Zach Calzada completed 18 of his 31 pass attempts for 245 yards and one touchdown. 

• Brandon Porter was on the receiving end of six of those passes, gaining 94 yards and one touchdown.  

• Ricky Rich had a team-high 10 total tackles, three of which were solo, against the Miners last week.
