SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team lost to Sam Houston State University, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
The Bearkats controlled most of the game, finishing with 12 shots (seven on goal) with the game's one goal coming in the 71st minute.
The Cardinals finished the afternoon with three shots (two on goal) in the loss.
Goalkeeper Erica Defferding finished the game allowing just one goal with six saves while playing the entire 90 minutes.
The Cardinals are back in action at Gayle and Tom Benson stadium next Sunday when they host Lamar in the team's first conference game of the season.
